EC’s Second Annual Photography Contest

 

Divisions

  1. Horses in Performance:  Photos must show horses in competition, training or work of any discipline including halter.
  2. Horses at Liberty:  Photos must show the horse in motion or at rest in his natural environment whether pasture, stable or in the wild.
  3. Horses and Humans:  Photos must demonstrate the bond between horses and humans.
  4. Horses and Feeding:  Photos can show the horse grazing, drinking, eating or their behaviors at feeding time. Photo may also show horse with feeds or feed packaging.
  5. Headshots:  Photos must only show the horse’s head.  The photo may have one or multiple heads in the picture, or it may focus on one facial feature.
  6. Around the Barn:  Photos can be of horses, humans or other farm animals or pets.  Photos can show humor, behavior, details or just life as it is on the farm. Artistic shots can be entered in this category.

 

Rules

  1. Entries must be the original work of the entrant, and the entrant must hold all copyrights to the photograph upon entry. 
  2. Entries must be previously unpublished work.
  3. Contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers.
  4. By entering their photographs, contestants give ec magazine First North American Serial Rights to the images.  This means that ec has the right to publish the image one time for its own purposes in addition to printing the winning images in the magazine as part of the contest.  Any further use of the images would be negotiated with the photographers.  The photographer retains photo credits and all other rights to the image.
  5. ALL submissions must be entered electronically or by mailing digital images on a CD.  Prints will NOT be accepted.

 

Submission Guidelines

  1. Photos must be submitted as either:
    1. High resolution JPG files emailed to editor@ecmagazine.net

OR

    1. High resolution JPG or TIFF images can submitted on a CD. The CD can be mailed to:

  1. Mailed entries must include a self-addressed stamped envelope for CD to be returned; ec is not responsible for lost mail.
  2. All entries must include the name, address, email address, and telephone number of the photographer. An entry form can be downloaded from www.ecmagazine.net.

 

Judging Criteria

Entries will be judged on composition of the photo, use of light and color to enhance the subject, uniqueness of the subject or perspective, suitability for the division and overall impact and quality of the photo.

 

Prizes

  1. Grand Prize:  “Feed a Horse for a Year” – The contestant who has the best overall photo will win a year’s supply of Seminole feed for his or her horse.
  2. Winner of each division:  Each division winner will receive 10 bags of the Seminole feed of his or her choice. (If no horse is owned an equivalent prize will be awarded).
