How
Lucky Can You Get?
Seminole Feed presented Lisa Blais with a new John Deere®
Gator CX from Green South, February 9, 2007 at Volusia Feed
in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Lisa is the lucky Grand Prize winner
of the recent SPILLERS® contest held by Seminole Feed. “It
couldn’t have come at a better time,” Lisa was referring
to her feed cart that was much in need of replacement. Lisa
now delivers her horses and mules their SPILLERS® Meadow
Herb Senior Mix from the bed of her new Gator! In
addition to the Grand Prize, two 50cc Super Sport Scooters
were awarded. Mary Patricia Leisner of Sandbar Farm, located
in Groveland FL, was presented with her new Scooter at Clermont
Equestrian. “Trish” breeds Sport horses and they
thrive on a diet of SPILLERS® Safety 1st Performance Pellets
and Seminole Equalizer. For now her new scooter will be used
at horse shows, but she has big plans to put it on boat on
zoom around the islands someday!
The second Scooter was awarded to Donna Mote of Senoia, GA
at Southern Charm Feed. Donna has 8 performance bred Quarter
Horses that flourish on SPILLERS® Meadow Herb Senior Mix
and SPILLERS® Safety 1st Performance Pellets. Congratulations
winners!

New
Molasses-Free Low-Sugar Forage
Lucerne Farms has developed Hi-Fiber Gold, a new molasses-free
forage feed for horses. Hi-Fiber Gold is a low-starch, high-fiber
blend of short-chopped timothy, oat and Alfalfa hay with added
soybean oil. This low-sugar forage is a great hay alternative
for horses with Insulin Resistance, Cushings Syndrome or laminitis.
|
Lucerne
forage feeds are more than just “hay in a bag.”
Unlike traditional hay, Lucerne bagged forages are high temperature
dried and virtually dust-free. This high temperature drying
effectively “locks in” the natural nutrition, while
destroying harmful mold spores that cause respiratory problems
and allergies. These forage feeds are an ideal fiber supplement
or can be used as a complete hay replacement when required.
When chopped forages are mixed with daily grain rations horses
are less likely to “bolt” their feed. Additionally,
they will chew more and create more saliva; both are helpful
for proper gut function.

forage feeds visit www.lucernefarms.com. |

Tasty
& Nutritious Horse Licks
To supplement your spring pastures, provide your horses with
new HorsLic or MenthoLic. The HorsLic feed supplement is a
palatable, cost effective and convenient way of providing
horses and ponies with the essential vitamins, minerals and
trace minerals they require. HorsLic is a nutrient-rich lick
supplement manufactured from high quality molasses. MenthoLic
contains the refreshing and soothing properties of menthol
with the flavor enhancing qualities of eucalyptus and aniseed.
In addition, MenthoLic is formulated with ground flaxseed
and linseed oil making it a valuable source of Omega-3 Fatty
Acids. It can be fed in the pasture or the stable and is ideal
for all types of horses.
Today,
the feeding quality of forages varies widely due to plant
species differences, soil fertilization programs, climatic
conditions and forage maturity at harvest time. Often times
grazed or harvested forages alone will not supply all the
nutrients required by your horse. HorsLic supplements are
designed to supply the nutrients to your horse that are often
deficient in the forage they consume. The highly palatable
sugars within HorsLic attract moisture from the atmosphere,
slowly forming a nutritious, syrupy blend of vitamins, minerals,
protein and energy on the block surface. Horses and ponies
can remove this nutritious liquid by licking the surface of
the supplement. This provides for a controlled release of
ingredients ensuring the horses and ponies have adequate,
but not excessive levels of essential nutrients.
HorsLic
and MenthoLic are now available through your local Seminole
Feed retailer. For more information visit www.horslic.com.
Breyer® to Create New Portrait Models of Barbaro
Breyer Animal Creations®, maker of the world’s finest
model horses, announced today that in response to overwhelming
consumer demand, more Barbaro portrait models will be produced
to commemorate the late racehorse.
|
 |
“We
have received so many calls, emails and letters from children
and adults alike asking us to create more Barbaro models.
By honoring those requests, we will also have the opportunity
to donate $10 from the sale of each model to the new Laminitis
Fund at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary
Medicine, started by his owners Roy and Gretchen Jackson.
The fund will support research into this terrible disease
which has ended the lives of so many horses, including the
valiant Barbaro,” said Anthony Fleischmann, President
of Reeves International, Inc., Breyer’s parent company.
|
Barbaro, the 2006 Kentucky Derby winner, was euthanized on
January 29 because of complications from laminitis which developed
during his convalescence from surgery. He had a career-ending
breakdown in the 2006 Preakness Stakes. Although Barbaro was
a model patient, handling his recovery as bravely as he ran
his races, he succumbed to laminitis despite the best efforts
of a superb team of veterinary professionals headed by Dr.
Dean Richardson, chief of surgery at the George D. Widener
Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania’s School
of Veterinary Medicine’s New Bolton Center. During that
time, the tremendous outpouring of worldwide support and media
attention made Barbaro’s fight for his life as well
as the eight month struggle to save him, one of the most heartfelt
media stories of the year.
Breyer’s Barbaro portrait model will be available for
purchase through 6:00 p.m. Eastern time on April 2, 2007 at
Breyer’s website at www.breyerhorses.com or call 1-800-735-9205.
The price is $45 plus $8 each shipping and handling, limit
two (2) per household or address. The model will begin shipping
in July 2007 when Barbaro models will also be available from
retailers. Ten dollars from the sale of each model will be
donated to the Laminitis Fund at The University of Pennsylvania’s
School of Veterinary Medicine. The Barbaro model will include
a certificate of authenticity signed by trainer Michael Matz,
jockey Edgar Prado, surgeon Dr. Dean Richardson and Anthony
Fleischmann, President of Reeves International, Inc. Each
model will have Barbaro’s name stamped on the belly
in gold ink. It will be packed in a customized, four-color
Breyer® box featuring pictures and the story of his career.
Free
Evaluation of Your Horses Gait
In 2007 Friends of Sound Horses (FOSH) is offering a free
gait evaluation service by judges to assist owners, exhibitors,
or future exhibitors of gaited horses.
For those owners interested in participating, a licensed Independent
Judge’s Association judge will privately view the video
and give feedback to help identify your horses’ gaits
and guide you about divisional standards at FOSH shows or
shows using the FOSH/IJA Rulebook. |
Horses being videoed must comply with FOSH/IJA rules regarding
shoeing. The one
inch shoe is the largest permissible shoe under IJA Rules. It
is permissible only on
horses that are 4 years old and over and in specified classes.
Breed rules vary so check
breed specific rules. For Tennessee Walking Horses, the 1 inch
shoe is only allowed in
Park classes. |
 |
How does the program work? Participants should visit the FOSH
website to obtain details and a form to submit with their
video. The free video evaluation is available for all gaited
horse owners and not just FOSH members.
FOSH
is a national leader in the promotion of natural, sound gaited
horses and in the fight against abuse and soring of Tennessee
Walking Horses. For more information about FOSH or to become
a member, please visit www.fosh.info or call 1-800-651-7993.
