On a happy Saturday in April, a group of civic-minded horse people and philanthropists gathered for a gala lunch in an elegantly appointed tent at the Florida Horse Park. It was a gorgeous crowd, the men dapper in sportcoats and the ladies preening in hats. The view in the morning was a polo match that showed even the most experienced equestrians what real riding is all about.

Don’t overlook dental, deworming and nutrition needs of your senior horse.

With advancements in health care, dentistry and nutrition, the senior horse is enjoying unprecedented longevity and quality of life. Today, it’s common for horses to perform well into their 20’s and live into their 30’sand 40’s.
Regardless of performance level, the aged horse’s body becomes less efficient every year. The digestive system might not absorb nutrients as well, teeth can lose most of the reserve crown, immune systems are weaker, joints probably have some arthritis, hormones sometimes become unbalanced and the respiratory system is more susceptible to challenges.

The best way to avoid infectious diseases like West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis is to prevent mosquitoes from taking over your farm.

The large amount of rain that fell early this spring in the South provided a good breeding ground for flying foes like mosquitoes. Without proper mosquito management and control around your farm, your horses run the risk of being infected with potentially deadly diseases such as West Nile Virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, Equine Infectious Anemia, and more.
